An ever increasing number of healthcare professionals recommend nutritional supplements to enhance self-healing and ensure healthy function in their patients.
But, with the endless array of supplements available, how can you be sure that your choices and recommendations are effectively addressing and maintaining specific, underlying foundational needs?
One of the biggest lessons I have learned in practice is that on countless occasions I found patients taking, literally, a shopping bag full of supplements, either self-prescribed and/or recommended by other practitioners,yet leaving significant gaps in core requirements.
This is because the majority of patients, and far too many clinicians, rely on symptoms, descriptive information about a given supplement, or traditional laboratory tests that do not address underlying, foundational imbalances that have led to their current or chronic health problems.
Taking and recommending supplements based on symptom patterns or expository information about a product can certainly improve symptoms but does not assure that core imbalances have been resolved.
As a result, improvements in symptoms are frequently only temporary or remain only as long as the patient continues taking that supplement. The underlying imbalance may continue to progress and new symptoms emerge.
Also, since different types of imbalances within the body produce identical symptom patterns, it is very difficult to identify the source without testing. Trial an error becomes a waste of time and money and prolongs patient sufferring. In addition, descriptions of product uses are, by definition, global in nature and are not targeted to one's unique needs.
In Essence, targeting symptoms or taking a product for its overall descriptive nature, is Mostly Guesswork.
